Benedict Arnold

On a cold day in 1775, Benedict Arnold was leading his men to Quebec. Benedict Arnold was excited to try and take Quebec. He took the route of the Maine forests his armed forces was very tired by the time that they reached Quebec. But on his way, there was trouble. Some of the men left him and took some supplies that were really important to them. That’s not all, the conditions were harsh and it slowed them down. Finally, with great effort, he made it with about 600 men left. At Quebec more trouble came, there was a huge rainstorm that held them back for three days. This gave the British more time to get reinforcements and protection. Arnold had to keep waiting but then most of the men left because it past their subscription dates. At the same time, most of his men caught smallpox. It was devastating. It just kept getting worse; Arnold got shot right in the leg. Even so, he refused to give up. He would make the sick men fight. He wouldn’t leave until he triumphed! He did get reinforcements but only a small amount of them. Though his efforts were hard, he ended up losing the battle anyways. The Americans lost the battle of Quebec.
